All Aces is symbolic of a walk through fire and the joy of survival. Sonny survived cancer only to have her home burn to the ground. She was determined to overcome, not allowing these life experiences to beat her but to grow through her music.

Her lyrics to “I’m not Leavin’ You” reveals a confidence and strength gained from adversity as does her tune of personal experience “Got-ta Win It”. She is fronting the band on an album for the first time and the honesty and emotion in her voice has an understanding few singers show. It brings a depth to the band it has not shown before.

The connection with her band mates has deepened with a new intensity; lively riffs are tossed back and forth with unabashed pleasure. The true satisfaction of lovin’ what you’re doing is evident. Each player seems to have reached for new heights and totally deserve the “All Aces” attribution.

Eminently danceable, “All Aces” is also a complex and talented musical accomplishment. Quoting one of her own lyrics: “You know you can win after losin’ sometimes….” This album proves it!

On bass is Grammy nominated producer, John Linn, and on Drums is Edwin Coleman III, always bringin’ the funk and Groovin’ Hard. Portland’s own Paul Creighton, Mark Wyatt, and Jeannine “Gigi” Wiggins share their soulful vocals styles. Lewis Livermore and Dave Mills carry the backbone sound of the Soul Vax horns on trumpets, with Mary Sue Tobin, Gary Harris, & Tim Bryson on saxophones. Don’t miss our next show.

Since the June, 2010, release of his third CD, “Portland Rendez-Vous,” Eric John Kaiser (“Portland’s French Troubadour”) has logged close to 10,000 miles via air, land and sea.

Exploring North America on multiple lengthy tours, the Paris native has gigged his way up through Canada and down through the South, as far as New Orleans and Washington D.C., where he performed as an “Artist in Residence” for the Smithsonian Museum. Sometimes driving his trusty Subaru under the wide Montana sky, sometimes riding the subway under the New York City canyons… Then jetting across the Atlantic to tour through France… His music has logged as many miles and picked up accents from across the American landscape: his latest songs resonate now with a very American rhythm, like bouncing across the vast plains on horseback… some western lap steel guitar… some dirty roadhouse blues… The culmination of this musical evolution is Eric John Kaiser’s latest CD (produced in part thanks to fan-funding through RocketHub.com), “Dehors c’est l’Amerique” (“Outside, It’s America”).

In his travels, Eric John Kaiser has become a kind of booster for the charms of Portland and America in general. He says, “After touring intensively in the US over the last two years, I think that in a way sometimes I am a mirror to people. They’ll ask why I would leave a beautiful and prestigious city like Paris to come to Portland. What makes PDX special? What they mean is, ‘tell us why we are special and why you like it here’! I think in some ways that makes them even more proud to be Americans when they hear praise from a French guy…”

After a 30-year friendship, these two “pickin' buddies” have finally done it! They have chronicled the magic that happens when they get together on a marvelous new CD full of great tunes.

The musical styles represented and the types of guitars used covers the gamut, creating a totally engaging listening experience. You’ll hear stuff you’ve never heard come out of John’s playing, while getting introduced to his friend Jim Wallace in the process.

In this CD outing John veers off the beaten path by collaborating with his good friend Jim Wallace. The chemistry that occurs when two accomplished guitarists combine forces is, first of all, exciting. It’s also unpredictable. No matter what the concept was in the beginning, the music will take on a life of its own. This CD doesn’t sound at all like the typical John Standefer album. And it’s not like a John Standefer album + Jim Wallace either. It is truly a collaboration between the two players where both guitarists adjust their style – and the sum is greater than the parts.

The song list contains a wide array of musical styles and the guitars used and tunings involved are extensive. This CD is a culmination of over 30 years of ‘guitar fellowship’ and several years of recording tunes here and there until a good collection came together that represents the magic that occurs when these two get together. The arrangements are all unique and cool to listen to. John and Jim are looking forward to sharing their ‘guitar chemistry’ with you and hope that you get a kick out of the fusion.

Brush Prairie formed in 2009 when Zia McCabe (also in The Dandy Warhols) decided she wanted to learn to sing, and country singing came most natural.

Zia and Kirk Delong started Brush Prairie as a duo but soon added Christa Buckland to sing harmonies, the band has been through many changes since then and has grown to a seven piece including a mandolin/banjo player and great talents from other NW bands including The Shivas, The SexyWaterSpiders and Donovan Breakwater. Brush Prairie is heavily inspired by the classic/vintage country sounds of Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, etc…

A lucky break came when an author had a release with Amazon.com that needed a country song to go with it. Brush Prairie was selected as the band to write/record the song and shoot a video to coincide with the release of the book titled Carry Yourself Back To Me by Deborah Reed. Now Brush Prairie has a song and EP of the same name.
